I cook the cabbage at the end. Cut information technology in wedges and cooked seperately from the meat. I use 1/2 cooking liquid from the meat and one/2 chicken broth with butter added to the liquid. Cooked until simply crisp tender. Gives the cabbage a lovely flavor, it stays greenish and doesn't become all mushy.

This recipe is very good as written and is very easy to make. I always similar to read the reviews and make the recipe the original mode and then over again and tweek to reviews as needed, I like helpful constructive reviews. The only frustrating affair is when people change the whole recipe. They should send in their own. Tracey did not even annotate on this recipe,(not sure if she tried information technology) put hers in the reviews and said her family will just eat hers. That is nifty merely I experience information technology is a disrespectful to the persons recipe. Please send in slight changes to help us, do not rewrite. Thanks

Absolutely succulent. I started out past cooking this on the stove top as the recipe states (for about 45 minutes) but due to a family emergency, I had to leave the house. Before leaving, I put the meat and liquid into my crock pot. Past the time I got home, the meat was perfectly cooked (45 minutes on stove, then 7 hours in crock pot for an most 3 lb. roast). I took the communication of some other reviewers and added 1/two stick of butter to the liquid equally the meat cooked and I as well used beefiness goop instead of water. The next solar day on the stovetop I cooked the cabbage, carrots and potatoes in the liquid the meat cooked in the night before. When the vegetalbes were done, I added the meat back into the liquid only to warm it. It was SOOOOOO good!! I will definitely make this over again!!

Fantastic! I have always kind of "winged" information technology with corned beef and cabbage, with varying degrees of success. I read many of the reviews and added a bottle of beer to the water to simmer the meat in. WOW! This is it! From now on, no more than winging information technology! For spices, I used the packet seasonings, some minced garlic. Added unpeeled red potatoes, onion slices, baby carrots and of form cabbage wedges.

this is my kickoff time making corned beefiness and cabbage, and my fiance and i thought it was terrfic, the meat was very tender and juicy while the vegetables was absolutley superb & tasty. The corned beef was 3.75 lbs that came along with the spice package, instead of water i used beefiness broth, added vi large cloves of garlic, one large white onion cut up into wedges, 2 bay leaves, 12 whole peppercorns, 10 modest carmine potatoes/carrots, 3 tbls of butter to bring out the richness of gustatory modality ... all in a crockpot -- it took me 8 hours to cook this dinner and information technology was worth every infinitesimal of it.

I did not have to cook this recipe, this is the aforementioned every bit my grandpa always fabricated it. To the people out the writing reviews calculation beef broth and what not . . THIS IS NOT BEEF STEW! It IS NOT SUPPOSED TO TASTE Like IT. If y'all modify the recipe so you are making something else. This is exactly how yous make Irish corned beef and cabbage. If yous change it, so you are making something else.

Jeepers, it needs onions! Everything except desserts needs onions!
03/17/2013
This will exist the fouth time using this recipe and it is elementary and yummy. The minor changes I do is cut up the potatoes and use minor carrots that I don't take to cut or peel. I don't empathize why the near helpful review on here does non follow this recipe at ALL! Please mail service your own recipe and let people review it. I find information technology NOT helpful to me when reading reviews. If y'all add Beef broth, brown saccharide, mushrooms, onions, fifty-fifty beer. I can sympathize one or two changes but all that is something different and so Corned beef and cabbage.

Cheers again for a wonderful recipe but thanks also to all who write these great reviews. Information technology is so nice to read what cooks think of the dish they brand. Yesterday I made this Corned Beefiness & Cabbage & in my 45 years married to wonderful Irish husband he tells his Italian wife that it was the best yet. WOW! What is funny to me about Allrecipes.com is that now whenever I come upwards with a new dish, friends or family will say: Allrecipe.com?? They know me by now. The reviews helped and then much on these recipes. The trouble I had with this is that there were no spice packets in the pkg. and so I just did my own thing…4 garlic cloves, crushed, pepper corns, mustard corns, 2 bay leaves, pepper, dry out mustard & the only change I made was adding canteen of beer. When the beef was done I put it in a dish, covered with foil. Then cooked my veggies in those wonderful juices till not quite done. When they were washed I put them in a dish with broth, covered with foil & put in a warm oven till I was gear up to serve. Sliced my cooled downwards beefiness, put in a 13 X ix dish covered with foil put in oven till ready to serve. I did make the Horseradish sauce and it was very skillful too, but I constitute that it was cold adjacent to the overnice hot corned beef. I'yard sticking to Grey Poupon….Besides a little sprinkle of white vinegar on cabbage is great. Also helps with any problem that may occur afterwards!! ? Outstanding!! Wow…bang-up recipe. Thanks Laria and thank you all with the great reviews. Nana Happy St. Patrick's D

All-time Corned Beef and Cabbage E'er!! I didn't change a matter and it turned out perfect!! Super simple recipe with astonishing results! YUM
12/22/2009
Straightforward recipe that turned out a tasty boiled dinner. The only thing I'd practise differently next time is skim the peak once information technology boils the beginning time and then add the spices.
01/28/2004
I executed the recipe equally is (can't truly charge per unit it otherwise tin you lot?) and was thoroughly pleased with the results. Timing is very subjective of course, depending on the the kind of pot you use (enamelled iron, steel...), your stovetop (gas, electrical, halogen...) or oven (regular, convection...), but the times given in the original recipe are a very good approximate - just recollect that tenderness is what yous aim for. My simply add-on was a generous swirl of sweet butter in the strained goop before serving; it adds a lovely richness to the sauce. 8 thumbs up (in that location were 4 of the states)!
03/16/2006
This is the style it's done. Nosotros always told my female parent to make extra veggie'south because we knew what was coming the next solar day and that was the all-time role. The next mean solar day was cold sliced corned beef and my female parent's vegetable fry. She would chop up all the leftover potatoes, carrots and cabbage and fry upward in a well seasoned fe skillet.. what she used equally base of operations, butter I think, she would let cook until it got crispy, then plow and practise again. To this twenty-four hour period, I can not duplicate but keep trying. Effort information technology you will love it. A medley of season..
03/10/2010
I've been doing it this style for over 30 years. In the last one-half hour I'll pull the brisket from the pot, put it in a roaster and cover it with ane/4 cup of brown carbohydrate and place covered in the oven with simply a pocket-size amt of juice in the bottom. The brown carbohydrate will melt and create a wonderful glaze for the corned beef. While the beefiness is in the oven I'll use the liquid in the pot for the veges and then I'll besides add a layer of dumplings to the top subsequently the veges begin to boil. Luv it so much that I practice information technology more than than just Patty's Day

The perfect simple Corned Beef recipe. In that location'due south enough of ways to prepare this meat, but if you want simple and delicious just follow along and you won't be disappointed. I am ordinarily a recipe "modder" I seem to always exist adjusting quantities and adding things. However lately I take been just trying recipes as they are written to find out how the author likes it. This one was fantastic! I was very skeptical of the simplicity, but wow it only was corking! Thanks alot!
04/08/2008
Bang-up recipe. added tracey hint: I take the corned beef out and while the cabbage carrots and pot'due south are cooking in the liquid, I put the brisket in the oven for xxx minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until smooth. 1/3 cup of brown sugar,2 tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, 1/3 loving cup of ketchup, and 3 tblsp of apple cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till polish, and then cascade over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. thirty to forty mins. at 350 will do it. Promise you like information technology, all of my friends who hate corned beef volition only eat mine!
04/12/2014
Lovely people, This recipe is wonderful written 'equally is' - only I'd like to speak to those of you who are aggravated near people changing up the recipe and and so rating information technology, since 'changing it up' actually doesn't requite you an accurate review of the recipe as written. I have this to offer: Some of u.s. utilise what'due south on-paw rather than going out and buying ingredients specific to the recipe. I notice this very helpful on occasion because 1) you lot might not have to go shopping if you use the substitutes or 2) you lot tin learn a different manner to use a spice or other ingredient - which only makes y'all a better cook. Too - I've establish a few recipe reviewers who have taken allergies into consideration. Sometimes those 'change ups' can exist invaluable and salvage fourth dimension when y'all don't have to scour the Internet trying to find a mode to omit a sure ingredient but still get the full effect of the dish. I, as well, am sometimes frustrated with the review system - but if you try to empathize where the reviewer is coming from, sometimes you tin brand a 'merely okay' dish into something completely out of your original realm of thinking. Tolerance, folks ... just by the mere fact that people take the fourth dimension to review dishes, even if they do change them a scrap, shows they care enough to share their information with you. Happy cooking!
03/12/2011
I add one more step (succulent) after y'all remove the corned beef from the liquid, brush the superlative with regular prepared mustard and then add together a thin layer of lite brown suger on top of the mustard, put into a 350 oven for about thirty min.
04/03/2012
I fixed this 4 times in March. I do believe that information technology is the best Corned beef and Cabbage recipe. I take a very good Irish friend of 75 yrs one-time and she told me it was the best she ever had...and preceded to tell it to the owners of a 100 yr old Irish deli and store. I cooked it in only guiness beer and beef goop. Added peppercorns, bay leafage and onions. When the meat was tender I removed information technology from the pot and glazed it with a tart Orange marmalade, brown mustard and brown sugar glaze and wrapped in foil and put it in the oven. Then I strained the broth, then added the potatoes and carrots and a stick of butter. I cooked the cabbage (I used savoy cabbage) in a dissever skillet, braising it in the broth with butter until cooked but still crispy. Made a Horseradish sauce of three/four sour foam, 1/4 horseradish, 1 tlbs dried chives and the juice of i/2 lemon. This recipe will impress anyone you serve it to.
08/10/2008
Good recipe. The corned beef is actually not bad when served topped with a horseradish dressing. 1/2 cup mayo, i/ii cup sourcream and horseradish to gustation.
03/12/2009
This has been my standard recipe for years. I accept institute ane thing that takes information technology to the top. After the corned beef is done cooking I remove information technology from the pot or crock pot and top it with a glaze of mustard and brown sugar. You can mix it to your liking. I make a lot and let it drip down all the sides. I so put it in the oven until information technology is heated through and the brown sugar is dissolved. And then piece and savour.
03/fourteen/2012
I agree with others...skip the crock pot...the former fashioned fashion works best. I similar to melt the corned beef, remove from water and wrap in aluminum foil to proceed hot. Then I strain the h2o to get out the peppercorns and re-employ to melt potatoes, carrots and cabbage. This way you don't bite into a big peppercorn hiding in the cabbage.
03/xx/2007
Equally per some of the suggestions, I used ii cans of beer & two cans of beef broth instead of water and cooked it for 7 hours in the crockpot. I also added 3 cloves of garlic and an onion to the crockpot. I should have given the potatoes and carrots 90 minutes. I just immune for thirty and dinner was quite belatedly. Even my husband liked it who swore he hates corned beef and has never liked cabbage - but he ate information technology all!
03/11/2012
this was fabled, first I boiled the corned beefiness on top of stove in water, one guinness, one bay leaf, the spice packet, and i shot of Jameson whiskey, I followed the advice of another review which said to glaze the corned beef for the last 40 minutes with the one/3 cup brown carbohydrate, 2tbsp melted butter, 1 tbsp prepared mustard, 1/three loving cup of ketchup, and 3 tbsp of apple cider vinegar, bake 40 minutes at 350degrees while the vegetables are cooking, cut the corned beef beyond the grain. Serve with soda bread. It is soooo good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!i
03/02/2005
Just a note that may assist in cooking this meal, Add some Caraway seeds when you lot add together the cabbage. It will aid to become rid of the gas that you will probably get from eating the cabbage.

Traditional corned beef for St. Patrick's Day.. or any other time of the year when you can't stand to have it only once! ***UPDATE: I made this again this year and it was absolutely delicious, but with these alterations: I used ane can of Guiness, beefiness broth, and a water to boil the meat. In addition to the spice packet, I added two-3 tbsp. mustard seeds, whole blackness peppercorns, and three bayleaves. The cabbage took well-nigh 20 minutes to cook even when I turned up the temp (I took out the meat). I would recommend 2 heads of cabbage b/c I similar the cabbage. I used nearly an entire (salve the few I snacked on while cooking) i lb. bag of baby carrots and 12 babe reddish potatoes. I wouldn't omit the potatoes b/c they blot a lot of the common salt and you can terminate upwardly with a really salty roast. Anyhow, this recipe is a dandy starting indicate, only with additions information technology can exist crawly... and it was! Everybody gobbled it up on St. Patty's. Thanks!
03/17/2012
This was very good! The but alter I made was to add together iii large cloves of chopped garlic. I likewise made a sauce for the brisket as mentioned by a member named Tracey. This is what she said... "I take the corned beef out and while the cabbage carrots and pot'south are cooking in the liquid, I put the brisket in the oven for thirty minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until polish. 1/iii cup of chocolate-brown saccharide,ii tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, 1/3 cup of ketchup, and iii tblsp of apple cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till smooth, then pour over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. xxx to twoscore mins. at 350 will do it. Hope you similar information technology, all of my friends who detest corned beef will just eat mine!"... Tracey's sauce recipe was PERFECT!!! I'll make my corned beef like this from now on!
02/05/2013
Adept, basic and functional - what I'd call a reference recipe. I did mine in the tiresome cooker and added a bottle of Guiness Draught with plenty h2o to comprehend. I cooked the cabbage separately in some of the cooking liquid. Reliable, but more instructional than a unique recipe.
02/17/2014
I'm Irish. VERY Irish gaelic. And this is my GO TO recipe for corned beefiness and cabbage. I just gave it iii stars, then why is it my Go To?? I gave information technology 3 stars based on how it tastes equally-is. It's my Go To because it keeps the recipe uncomplicated. Here's the affair - you don't have to do anything fancy to brand amazing, over-the-tiptop corned beef and cabbage. People recall it needs to be complicated. It doesn't!! The ONLY thing I added and information technology makes a HUGE departure - 1/ii jar of McCormick Pickling Spice. I forgot this ingredient once and never will again.
05/04/2009
this is the all-time corned beef and cabbage i accept e'er tasted an perpared, subed beef goop for water and cooked veggies in broth......wow i couldnt finish eating. Thanks? LOL
03/17/2014
I followed the recipe exactly as written. Oh, except I changed a million things. Past the fourth dimension it was finished, it was an entirely different meal. Loved it!
03/thirteen/2011
I just made this recipe this evening. I didn't modify a single matter! IT WAS AWESOME!!!
06/05/2013
Cut off the large fatty and then cover the corn beef with beefiness goop Add peppercorns, bay foliage and onions to spice packet. Earlier adding the spice packet, you offset bring the meat to a boil and skim the foamy stuff off the top of the water.. melt meat @ 50 min. per lb Accept the corned beef out and while the cabbage carrots and pot's are cooking in the liquid, Add together some Caraway seeds when yous add the cabbage. Glaze for brisket Put the brisket in the oven for xxx minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until smooth. 1/three cup of brown sugar,2 tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, 1/3 loving cup of ketchup, and 3 tblsp of apple cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till smooth, then pour over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. 30 to forty mins. at 350 will practise it.
12/28/2009
Hi, quick question. If I want to end this in the oven do I shorten the original cooking time? Thanks
02/28/2011
Oh my gosh! Wonderful. I prepared it correct by the recipe. My family of five gobbled up a 2.vii pound corned beefiness brisket in no time. There wasn't much conversation at this meal, except that they were begging me to cook this again fifty-fifty earlier nosotros were washed eating. Will definately cook once again!
03/11/2009
My husband and I enjoyed this very much. Our kids had never eaten Corn beef, so they were on the argue, however for them. They loved the veggies very very much. I placed this in the crock pot/boring cooker all mean solar day. I used a 6qt on loftier. My pot was really full so the cabbage I placed in one ane/ii hours out from serving dinner. All the veggies were soo good. The meat was very tender, flavored well and soo like shooting fish in a barrel to separate for slices. Will make this once more for hubby and I.
09/08/2008
This is the same recipe my grandma taught me but to relieve time, I put everything in the crock pot.
eleven/03/2002
Wonderful recipe! I would definately make this again. However, I would change a couple of things. First, if the corned beef y'all buy has an excessive amount of fat on the underside as many of them do, trim the fat. Also, do every bit one reviewer suggested, add together beefiness broth instaed of h2o. I as well added an onion. Loved this easy to make recipe. Try information technology.
03/fourteen/2009
I made this ane last week and it was really skilful. I rinsed off the beef when I took it out of the package, and so proceeded every bit directed. I used regular potatoes, peeled and cut in half instead of the red potatoes and they worked fine. I cooked the potatoes and carrots about 30 minutes before adding the cabbage. The meat was very tender and the veggies cooked simply right.
03/18/2009
I wait all year for this meal merely I had never made it myself until this twelvemonth. A friend gave me the advice to pull the beef out of the pot when you lot put the veggies in, sprinkle brownish sugar on top and bake it at 350' until the veggies and cabbage are washed. It was And then proficient! Please attempt this!!!
01/08/2014
Followed exactly and it was fantastic. Husband wants more!
03/14/2009
I don't fifty-fifty like corned beef and cabbage and this was a hit! For the most part, I stuck to the recipe. Just added one bottle of Harp beer, a Tbs. of minced garlic and a nuance of celery common salt. I did not include the potatoes with the meat because we were having another potato sidedish, but I think they would've been good cooked in the pot. I cooked a 3 1/4lb. slice of meat for about 4 hours and it shredded beautifully. Slap-up recipe!
01/09/2012
Xclnt, easy dish! made this a few times. I employ a VERY large pot. I added one can of low-cal beer, and about 2 cups of apple juice. So filled the rest with water to embrace meat. 45mins earlier brisket should be done, I add carrots and potatoes. 20mins before everything is done, I added the cabbage. YUM-O!
12/x/2006
OH MY! And so much for following the recipe. While my beef was simmering in viii cups of water for 2.5 hrs, I took a siesta. The water all evaporated and the beefiness burned. Fourth dimension to kickoff once again. A glass of wine for me, or maybe two, a fresh brisket, and one-half again as much water.
06/16/2008
I have been making this for years. I as well add a canteen of beer. I also use new potatos and celery, carrots, onion, fresh snap peas, fresh garlic, blackness pepper corns, mustard seed, dill seed, and lemon juice. Scarlet pepper and bong pepper. I can eat this for days. I don't trim the fatty. The fat is one of my favorite parts. This is i of the very few recipes I make that I am not fat witting nearly. This and steaks. I can eat this soup for days half dozen times a twenty-four hours!
03/17/2011
This is the classic preparation. I follow this procedure with a few changes: Cut the cabbage into large chunks and steam it separately until tender. Add as much butter every bit your diet will allow :) and season with salt and pepper. When the corned beefiness is fully cooked, remove it and put it in a blistering dish. Mix mustard and brown sugar to make a very thick paste. Spread the paste on top of the corned beef. Put the meat under the broiler until it bubbling and crisps. By cooking the cabbage separately and adding the brown sugar paste you'll enjoy more than variety of flavors and you'll go a little crunch for texture.
02/26/2007
This was my offset time making Corned Beef and Cabbage and this recipe is definitely a keeper. I volition be making this again! I used the red flat corned beef, turnip, peeled potatoes (both scarlet and Russet - couldn't tell the difference in taste), carrots, cabbage, white onion. My corned beef did not come w/ a spice package, but when the meal is consummate, the taste is even so to die for. I added a footling salt and pepper and a bit of garlic, only there is actually no need to.
03/xix/2004
I'm a rookie when it comes to cooking. In fact, I have never cooked a complete meal before attempting this recipe. On St. Patrick'due south day, my wife was working and I wanted to surprise her with a corn beef and cabbage dinner when she got home. The directions were easy to follow and the finished production was outstanding! I also made corn staff of life (my beginning try at baking breadstuff). I used craven broth instead of just water as some others had recommended. The carrots and potatoes were actually expert every bit well!! I was actually surprised how delecious the meal plow out then was my wife!!
10/04/2005
Love this recipe! Other reviewers suggest adding beef broth, peppercorns, etc., just I think this condolement food is best made simply, just like good 'ol mashed potatoes. Speaking of potatoes, if you lot decide non to utilize them, expect the broth to be pretty salty since the potatoes absorb a proficient amount of salt during the cooking process. Also, for those with kids, mash the potatoes and carrots together (or separately) with a fork, add together a niggling butter, and they'll probably dearest it! Mine did (age 6 and 7).
03/fourteen/2011
used 4.7lb beef, two heads cabbage, 7 med yellowish taters . Cooked beef 3hr20min,added taters cook 1 hr, added cabbage . cooked 30-35min till cabbabe tender just crispy ! great !!!
10/11/2002
YUM! I added extra peppercorns & beef broth instead of h2o (as others suggested), classic cb&c, nosotros honey information technology! My picky daughter ate left over chicken with the potatoes & carrots ;)Thank you Laria!
12/25/2006
if you want to add together a bit more than color and maybe a hint more sweetness to this recipe, try red cabbage with the green, information technology is wonderful.
03/sixteen/2012
Adding a store bought spice mix and adding it to h2o is not a recipe.
01/01/2011
Just perfect! Even married man liked it and he is not a veggie lovin guy so I wasn't sure about the cabbage just he went back for thirds!
12/18/2013
OMG This is then tasty it's to die for! You lot don't need ANY other seasoning other than the little packet that comes with the beef, not even salt. The meat itself does all the seasoning and flavoring for you. Don't be scared about how your cabbage will taste! Some other little tip - ADD SOME ONIONS. I honey onions and it makes everything that much better!! :) My family devoured this pot!
08/17/2002
Somewhat tasteless - won't melt again.
02/01/2011
I love this recipe as it is, but I found making 2 minor modifications makes it even ameliorate (at least in my family's opinion). First, add a one-half-cup or so of cooking sherry to the pot before starting. Second, supercede the cabbage with 1-1.five pounds of Brussels sprouts. Information technology makes for a overnice twist on an old favorite.
01/28/2011
Fabulous! Like a another reviewer, I had always winged it when it came to corned beef & cabbage. I followed this recipe to a tee and absolutely everything came our PERFECT! Corned Beef tender and starting to fall apart - which I love - and the potatoes, carrots and cabbage were perfectly soft but not soggy. From here on out, this will be THE recipe to use!
03/15/2010
This is amazing! I used another reviewers tip and used 1 can of beer and 3 large cloves garlic pressed through my garlic press (then enough water to cover beef and adding the spices from the bundle) and added 1 whole stick of butter at the same time I added the cabbage. I too cut my potatoes considering they were fairly large carmine potatoes and that worked well. Great Smashing Great Recipe!!!!
03/xi/2011
I prepared this just like the directions and my family just loved it!!
03/09/2014
Everything is okay until the total lack of onions. Ane onion, white or yellow, medium small-scale per person.
03/15/2011
Actually, real Irish don't even swallow this. It's an American Irish immigrant tradition from when this cut of meat was near the cheapest available. the poorer they were, the less that went into it. They as well didn't accept the overnice little spice packet either. Anyway, add the carrots, garlic, and if you feeling sassy, add broccoli tips. boil with a guinnes
12/31/2012
This recipe is perfect. I had never made corned beef earlier because I did not like information technology equally a child, merely my husband is Irish and really missed it. I tried this skeptically -- We all loved information technology! Now my kids request it all the fourth dimension. The all-time role about information technology is that the cabbage just cooks through, and so it is not mushy and tasteless. It has a wonderful, fresh flavor and is very piece of cake to make.
03/12/2009
Nosotros did not care for this at all! The veggies were not done enough & the cooktime wasn't long enough to disperse the flavors. I think it needs to be cooked all day.
03/15/2010
I made this Sun, information technology was to die for. My husband simply loved the beef, said it was the best he has e'er eaten. Give thanks you lot
01/01/2013
Perfect and like shooting fish in a barrel! I tried corned beef last year in a pressure cooker, information technology tasted nada like this. This is like shooting fish in a barrel. I fabricated information technology exact to instructions with a 3 lb corned beef. Even my family liked the carrots, and no one in my family likes cooked carrots. We only voted to have this on a normal rotation for dinner instead of merely new years day and St. Patrick's day.
04/04/2011
made as written. It was expert. The 2nd time I added a little reddish wine and water, 3 bay leaves, 3 whole cloves of garlic, two stalks celery,3 carrots,one/2 onion, and spice packet. Left the potatoes out. Added cabbage last hr of cooking. Turned out perfect!
05/12/2009
This is the starting time time my corned beef came out great. Give thanks yous for the recipe
01/21/2012
This is an excellent recipe! The just other thing I add is an onion.
03/14/2009
Amazing. The pot I used was a little small, so it was a tight fit, but I made information technology piece of work. Delicious carrots, potatoes, cabbage, and such tender corned beefiness. A fantastic recipe.
03/04/2003
This is a great recipe. Very easy, which is important. Using beef broth was a good proffer, however the meat that I used could have cooked a petty longer and the cabbage was a trivial under done, probably 25 min would exist better than fifteen. Merely overall it was very tasty and the whole family loved it!
03/xiv/2007
We cook this recipe every year at our St. Patty's Solar day party (sans the potatoes, add more cabbage), and our party grows every twelvemonth due to word of rima oris about the corned beefiness. Last year nosotros hosted over 100 people and went through half-dozen large crockpots of corned beef and cabbage.
05/21/2006
Great recipe! I used a giant roaster for this meal since we like a lot cabbage. This recipe is fool proof and always comes out perfect. I do put my carrots in with the meat cooking process since my family likes softer carrots and I add the potatos and cabbage together and then you become no tough cabbage in the end. Thanks for the recipe!
03/14/2015
I have tried many recipes similar this and they are all good. I'thousand directing my comments to all the negative people out there. Leave information technology alone, everyone knows it is not an Irish dish It is a wonderful ane pot repast Stay positive and enjoy. Have a wonderful family unit day enjoying this meal.
02/27/2011

"What's more Irish gaelic than a traditional recipe for corned beefiness and cabbage?" The respond is - lots of things! Corned beef and cabbage is non a traditional Irish dish. Built-in and bred in Ireland, I was in my 50'south when I spent some time in the US and was told that everyone eats corned beef and cabbage on St. Paddy'southward Day. I had never heard of information technology and I all the same have never tasted it. When I came home from that trip I did enquire effectually, in case I somehow had missed this vital part of Irish tradition, simply, no, I accept yet to encounter any Irish national who has actually eaten corned beefiness and cabbage. Farther enquiry has taught me that, in fact, Irish immigrants to America began eating corned beef, which they bought from Jewish butchers, because of their new-constitute affluence. At habitation, in Republic of ireland, it was only the very wealthy who could afford to eat beef. And then, eating corned beef on Paddy'due south Day is actually an American-Irish-Jewish tradition.

Wow, I listened to the reviews. I added 10 pepper corns, 3 cloves of garlic, ane bay leaf. I cooked a four pound trimmed cutting for three hours then moved information technology to the oven with Tracey'south (her review is highly rated) sauce while I cooked the veggies. The all-time corn beef I accept ever had. My family unit mowed through it. This should not be reserved for St Pats day. This is a world class repast....

This is the first time I accept fabricated corned beef and cabbage this fashion. Normally I get in in the crock pot. I always worried about it not coming out tender if information technology was boiled. This recipe was perfect, the merely affair I added was a can of beer for more than flavor. I volition be making it this style from now on. Bye adieu crock pot recipe!

This is how I have made corned beef for years. Definitely a tried and true recipe.

Good template for a superb classic dish. I highly recommend using a tin or 2 low-sodium beef broth instead of water, which really enhances flavor without oversalting the recipe. If y'all're a garlichead similar me try tossing in 5 or 6 cloves when you start the meat, and mash them into the stock after they cook to tender.

The best always! I have tried everything from baking, steaming, to slow cooking. Nothing compares to this one. The only difference was, I added 1 peeled onion whole, a table spoon of alspice, and several bay leaves. Wow, this is the but ane for us.

This is the way to practice it! Comes out perfect. I only make two small changes. I really merely let the cabbage boil maybe 5 minutes. I like it to exist much crispier. And, I actually don't like the spice packet. Comes out just great without it.

First of all, let me state I am non a corned beefiness fan. I decided to encompass my 12.5 % Irish blood in me on a whim this morning and make something in honor of St. Patrick's Day. Stumbled upon this recipe with such rave reviews that I dashed out to the market in search of a 3 lb corned beef and some soda breadstuff...got Guinness as an impulse item to cosign the meal while I was at information technology, and glad I did since I used the reviewers suggestions and gave up two of the bottles for the pot. I warned my husband of most 25 years that if we didn't similar the meat, there were plenty of veggies to sustain us. All I tin say is I can no longer say I'thou not a corned beef fan...though so far I only similar my own recipe (see how chop-chop something I learn becomes my own--it's a Greek thing)! I added one whole onion, 3 cloves of garlic (I love garlic and next fourth dimension I'll add more), one TBSP Allspice and doubled the carrots and cabbage. Not big into potatoes, merely the family is, and potatoes are just and then Irish. Simmered 3 hours, then added potatoes for 15 min, then the carrots for another xv then cabbage for the last 15. I heated up purchased Irish Soda Staff of life while the cabbage simmered. I served the repast on a big platter with the meat against 1 side of the platter, with the veggies surrounding the meat--I put the potatoes on 1 side of the meat, the carrots on the other side and the cabbage between, surrounding the meat for a colorful presentation. The adults were given Guinness Bottles a

Delicious. Nosotros enjoyed this very much. I had no red potatoes, so I used 6 medium-sized russets I had already, peeled and quartered. I layered the potatoes and carrots on the bottom of my crock pot and put the meat on top. My cabbage did not fit in my crock, then I laid it on top of the meat. I filled it halfway with h2o, threw in a few beef bullion cubes and let it melt. As the crock filled with juice I pushed the cabbage down a bit. I cooked information technology on high for 5 hours or so and everything was neat. Loved it. I don't think it needed the beef bullion. Very flavorful broth!

This was my first time making corned beef, and I will definitely be making it once more! The process is then easy, if somewhat lengthy, but the results are well worth it. I used half of the seasoning packet included in the parcel with the meat, and likewise took the recommended communication of using beef broth as the cooking liquid. When it was done cooking, I found the meat to be besides salty, so I took the advice of some other user and made a simple glaze out of brown sugar, mustard, butter, ketchup, and apple tree cider vinegar, then put the beef in a pocket-sized baking pan and broiled information technology at 350 for half an hr while the veggies cooked in the on the stove. I was a little skeptical, merely the event was an extremely tender, salty-sweet brisket that went perfectly with the vegetables.

I prepare this dish quite frequently as my family loves information technology! I simply add, during the terminal i/2 hour, the potatoes and carrots around the beef and then place cabbage wedges on height of everything to steam, comprehend and finish cooking. Also, to serve Practice delight try a generous amount of French's Mustard on the sliced corn beefiness and butter on the veggies ...it'due south just heavenly!

It got my 6 yr old daughter to eat cabbage. My wife and 2 year old son are non too dandy on corned beef, but the kid and I love corned beef (especially cold leftovers). This recipe was uncomplicated and perfect. I haven't added cabbage since my girl was born, just I thought I would give it a shot. I did add onions, fresh garlic, extra mustard seed, and celery, but on the whole it would have been easy and delicious regardless. I also cut upwardly the red potatoes and carrots and boiled them off 10 min earlier adding the cabbage, and then boiled off the cabbage for 10 min, then returned the rested beef to the pot for another ten-15 min on simmer. Anyway you practise it, it'southward easy and delicious. Will add mushrooms next time, I think. If you cut your potatoes don't overcook. I too serve with Southern style cornbread.

This recipe worked well. I did cook my brisket in water and the veggies turned out just a bit banal. Side by side time I will try using beef broth equally suggested by other reviewers. All in all a good recipe that I will use once more.
